3. Humanities Lesson using Collaborative Tools

I. Today we will be participating in a humanities lesson that explores how news has been disseminated in different ways throughout history. We will collaborate and use collaborative tools to explore this topic.

II. Lesson

Objectives
- Participants will be able to:
Create a basic timeline of how news has been disseminated throughout history.
Examine how technology has affected the dissemination of news.
Explore the limitations and affordances of different types of technologies used to disseminate the news.

A. Brainstorm
Throughout history, "the news" has been a powerful social, economic, and political entity- often driving change. To begin our lesson we are going to first brainstorm how news has been disseminated throughout history.

4. Questions

There has been much discussion about developing ways to entwine courses and disciplines. How is this occurring in the MS & US?

Where are we on the road to e-books…and less weight in those backpacks?

I was wondering if any studies have been done to compare note taking with a pencil and paper versuses taking notes on the think pad? Do you find that some children prefer one over the other?

What are the pros and cons of distraction due to increase use of technology?

What are the benefits of old fashioned paper and pen and where those are still used?
